Facebook?

A few weeks ago I created a Facebook page for Speckled Egg. I've been debating for days whether or not to actually have it "go live". I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with just my blog these days. I'm not sure if I have the time to keep up with Facebook too. But, I do like that with Facebook I could just post a few sentences here and there, without having to do a whole blog post. What are your thoughts? Do you like Facebook? Do you use it to keep track of what's going on with your favorite shops and businesses? Or is it just over-kill? Do you find yourself spending more time on Facebook than cruising the blogs these days? I'd love your input!!!

Hi Heather,

I'm on the computer about 3-4 hours a day and that's all the time that I can "afford". Great question, and I'll be back to read what everyone shares. :)

I have been into Facebook for a while now, but do not visit as often as I would like, mostly to catch up with family around the globe and old friends. Just actually starting to see it's potential to get the word out there. I think that initially you are immersed, but after awhile, you get better and it is only a short visit to get all the info you need, make visits and post.
It's just a ton of fun...go for it!

I have avoided facebook so far. At this point I anm happy to read and connect with the blogs - they just seem to touch me more personally.

Hi Heather
I´m on facebook and love it.
I really like the opportunity to post about my stuff and I have my facebook set up to show blog posts automatically - works fine.
I also like the possibilyties of new connections.
Also have a fan page for my etsy shop and use it to post about new stuff and listings.
I would say go for it.
Hope this make sence :D
~ Tina
ps: I do spend too much time on the computer though

I like Face Book a little...but Blog's are like visiting someone's home and studio. A few lines here and there are good. It will be fun and you can link your blog to it! Good Luck Grace

I have both a blog and use Facebook, but for different purposes. Blogs are where I write at more length, feature photos, etc. Facebook is for connecting with people I know well.

I have signed up for a few blogs on Facebook, but don't really enjoy reading them there. I much prefer the blog format.

In rereading this, I ask myself, "Does this make any sense at all?"

I am on Facebook -- but I hardly ever sign on. It's too much blah blah blah -- I like to see what people are making more than if they ate pizza for breakfast....... I much prefer blogs -- I guess because there is usually less monotony!

I'm on Facebook but I hardly go in, it keeps freezing up my computer. I keep it mainly for friends and reli's just as a catch up. It is easier if you just want something short and sweet though.
I'd much rather read the blogs with all the lovely pics etc.
I spend about 4 hours a day on the puter, not just bloggig or reading blogs.

Jan

PS: Facebook has some great games and you don't really want to go there.

Hi Heather.. great question. I've recently posted on my blog that I was going to take a break from blogging for awhile. We've had a store blog since 2006 and as you know it takes lots of your valuable time to keep it up. We don't get comments like you do so started to think "is it worth it?" Funny I get more comments on our facebook page. It seems easier for me to post store pictures and say 1 line about them. 10 minutes tops. I would love to know what is your secret for getting comments on your blog??

I do love me some facebook, but for keeping up with friends, not for blogs. However, I do have lots of "blog friends" as friends there, and it is nice way to chat with them about every day life stuff and not just blog stuff.

Hi Heather. I am a blog gal - don't have facebook or twitter. It seems redundant to me to have all of them. And I have a hard enough time keeping up with just blogging. Tweeting I can see might be good to get the word out for things like shop updates, but I can't figure out what else they would be good for. I've heard from people that Facebook is good for connecting with old school chums and people from your past. I don't need that as the people from my past that I want to connect with I have never lost touch with. Like Zuzu said, I'll be anxious to see what other's have to say about it. Maybe someone will say something that will convince me to take the plunge myself!

I think you can set up your blog to send a post update right to Facebook so you are covered!!

Hi Heather,
I had a Facebook page for a while, but just closed it down for good. I truly love blogs better. I feel like I am visiting someone at their home. I didn't have that feeling on Facebook.
That is my 2cents worth :)

Hi Heather - this is a great question. For me, i started to keep up with family.
Now, what I like about it is:
*It's great to be able to 'chat' with my sisters who might be on-line at the same time w/o the phone bill.
*It's been fun to connect with relatives in Denmark that I would have never 'met' otherwise.
*I also enjoy re-connecting with friends from high school and college - and even Jr. High.
*and posting photos. you can crate whole albums and lead others to see.

I don't put a lot of time into it, and i don't visit all of my friends every day.
I think it's very manageable if you put a time limit on it.
I will say tho that I much prefer blogs for eye candy and craft ideas. I wouldn't think to go to FB for that.
I know this is long, but you asked :)

This was an interesting post & I liked reading what everyone had to say. I do FB more for family & close friends (although some of my blog friends are FB friends).
Since we're not in the states anymore it allows me to update family items. I throw some artsy craftsy stuff in there, but most of that is reserved for the blog.

Facebook doesn't hook me. I have tried but the best it offers is connection with friends and former exchange students who lived with us. I also find out who of my daughter's friends is dating who...but that gets old!

Blogs are like the best of letters, wonderful photography, friendships, and people's life stories. Someday I hope to have one myself.

I go on Facebook but spend way more time on the blogs. Facebook is more diverse and I like my little creative blogworld. That being said, I think businesses should create a Facebook page but then you do have to make time to keep that updated too. Just my two cents!

I have facebook too, but really dont have time to keep up both the blog and facebook. I can barely keep up with blogging! I also think blogging is way more intimate and much more interesting.

Hi Heather~
The only reason I visit facebook is to contact a person. I love blogs because it is so much more personal. I think the best tool that you could use facebook for would be to notify people to 'check out your blog' which would be helpful to me.

hi heather,

can't explain it but facebook makes me nervous. i feel like i can be as private or open as i want to be on my blog but facebook seems like a whole different world. friending and unfriending? yikes. i also can't imagine using my precious blog time for facebook.

professionally - probably a different story. most businesses are taking part in various social media.

i'm not helping, am i!? LOL

Hey Heather! I agree with your hesitation. I am personally overwhelmed by all the social networking options and feel the more I take on the less I devote to each. I will say though that every time I hook into FB, I get an immediate satisfaction of feeling connected. I go on about once a week and I know others are there every single day. It feels like a quick fix whereas blogs are a more detailed feel for our art world. I say go for it!! I will be a fan!

Hugs, Kim

What Maija said, I usually blog, then I just click up top on "Share" and post it on my facebook, basically, all my friends who don't use blogger can still come in and read. I love that I can also share my store stuff on facebook with all my friends and family, who normally don't see everything I make or do.
Cheers,
Viviana

You can set up your facebook account so that your blog automatically posts there.
