Such a Doll!

My sweet friend, Barb, is hosting a Valentine's Day ornament swap. These were my contribution. I used an adorable collage sheet from here to make some little paper Valentine dolls. So fun! I hope the other girls like them too!

I have a few extras to share. If you'd like one, just leave a comment, and I'll pick 2 names on Tuesday!WINNERS!!!

Apparently the spammers liked the ornaments too! LOL... I had a ton of junk comments for these, but I think the random number generator finally picked some REAL people! :) Congrats girls!!!

Haiti By Hand

I just wanted to help spread the news about Rebecca Sower's Haiti By Hand Project. She is selling items by numberous artists with 100% of the purchase price going to Haiti.
I bought this lovely fabric collage by Charlotte Lyons last week. There are kits, quilts, jewelry supplies, children's items, and more.... with new things being added daily. You can also donate items to the effort as well.

Here is the description from the shop:
"Haiti By Hand is an artisan group of Haitian women begun by Rebecca Sower. Just days before the earthquakes of January 2010, Rebecca was in Haiti working with this group of women. This etsy shop was established to showcase and sell the handcrafts of the Haitians, as well as a shop to sell items donated by artists and crafters who want to help this group of Haitians rebuild and establish themselves after the devastation of the earthquakes.
The entire purchase price of every item in this shop goes directly to the relief and rebuilding efforts of Haiti By Hand in Despinos, Haiti."

Lovey Dovey Stuff

Thank you for all of the responses about my Facebook dilemma! I think that for now I am just going to stick to blogging. If I change my mind, you'll be the first to know! :)

I wanted to share with you some new goodies that I've recently added to the shop! Lots of pinks reds, and chocolate-y brown... perfect for Valentine's Day crafting!

And my MOST favorite new items ~ these fabulous spun cotton mushrooms from Germany. I've been {not so} patiently waiting for these to arrive for several weeks. I must have looked like a major dork jumping up and down when the delivery guy arrived today! LOL. They are here!!! And SO worth the wait. Too cute! (These are very limited and I'm not sure if I will be able to get more.)

You can find all of these and several other new items HERE!
Happy Creating!

Facebook?

A few weeks ago I created a Facebook page for Speckled Egg. I've been debating for days whether or not to actually have it "go live". I'm having a hard enough time keeping up with just my blog these days. I'm not sure if I have the time to keep up with Facebook too. But, I do like that with Facebook I could just post a few sentences here and there, without having to do a whole blog post. What are your thoughts? Do you like Facebook? Do you use it to keep track of what's going on with your favorite shops and businesses? Or is it just over-kill? Do you find yourself spending more time on Facebook than cruising the blogs these days? I'd love your input!!!

Experiments with Trees

I found a HUGE bag of bottle brush trees last summer for pennies at a yard sale. I'd been itching to try the bleaching/dyeing trick that has floated around blogland and thought this big collection would make a great experiment. I finally got around to actually doing it!! I didn't really use any directions... just played around with soaking them in a bleach and water mix (yuckiness!) and then in different dyes (food coloring, RIT, etc.)

It was really fun! Until my hubby shut down my operation... that much bleach being bad for the septic, stinking up the house... blah, blah, blah.

The rest of my pile will have to wait until nice weather when I can do them outside in a bucket.
Without him around.
But these are making me happy for now.
